Possible Season Scenarios due to Pandemic for AIA.  We take a look at what might happen to the Girls’ Basketball season due to the Pandemic and school closures. All the opinions here are just speculation on our part and should not be taken as fact.  Scenario 1.  We will start with the most disruptive. Fall sports get moved to winter, winter sports get moved to spring, spring sports get played in the fall. While this is unlikely since moves like this are likely to have been made already, most of the spring sports take place outdoors. Many leaders say that sports like baseball, softball, tennis, and track can be done with social distancing. This would then make football and girls volleyball be played in the winter and this the gyms would be full and unavailable for basketball.  It would give a full season to basketball starting in March. Seton Catholic has been nothing short of dominant in 4A.   In 2020 they went undefeated and captured the State Title, downing Tucson Sahuaro by a wide margin.   In 2019, they made it all the way to Championship game, losing a close one to Shadow Mountain.   Prior to that they have had multiple titles and title game appearances dating back at least a decade.   With no seniors on the ’20 team they seem to be ready to pick up right where they left off in March.   The Sentinels will be led in ’21 by junior guard Lexi McNabb.   She averaged over 10 points a game last season, and has the ability to up that to 15 or 16 in ’21.   Her athleticism and speed make her hard to guard.   Her on the ball defense make her a great all-around player.   Along with McNabb, is junior guard Sasha Daniel.   Her ability to get in the lane and get her teammates open is uncanny.   She finds shooters and set them up nicely.   Look for her assists and po...

The Tigers have completely owned the East Valley for the past 4 years.  They have made 4 straight trips to the Final 4 in both 6A and 5A.  Each of those trips they fell to West Valley powers Millennium or Valley Vista.  Once, 2019, they were able to make it to the championship game, but fell again to Millennium.  But against the rest of state and particularly the East Valley, they have won an astonishing 88 games with only 1 loss in that 4-year span.  They truly have dominated the East Valley.  Now with Millennium and Valley Vista losing so many top players to graduation and Prep Schools, is 2021 the year the Gilbert can win a 5A Championship? Time will tell. The Tigers graduated 33 points a game from its 2020 Final 4 team.   But with seniors graduation, comes plenty of opportunity for younger players to contribute in 2021.   They will be led by some players with extensive varsity experience.   One of these players is Nicole Evenson.  ...
