Seton Catholic has been nothing short of dominant in 4A. In 2020 they went undefeated and captured the
State Title, downing Tucson Sahuaro by a wide margin. In 2019, they made it all the way to
Championship game, losing a close one to Shadow Mountain. Prior to that they have had multiple titles
and title game appearances dating back at least a decade. With no seniors on the ’20 team they seem to
be ready to pick up right where they left off in March.
The Sentinels will be led in ’21 by junior guard Lexi
McNabb. She averaged over 10 points a
game last season, and has the ability to up that to 15 or 16 in ’21. Her athleticism and speed make her hard to
guard. Her on the ball defense make her
a great all-around player. Along with
McNabb, is junior guard Sasha Daniel. Her
ability to get in the lane and get her teammates open is uncanny. She finds shooters and set them up
nicely. Look for her assists and points
per game to rise from 3 and 10 respectfully.
Seton will be led by a group of seniors with vast amounts of
experience. Amanda Barcello, Annemarie
Trojanovich, and Bella DiGiovanni all have played major roles for the Sentinels
over the past few years. Each has the ability
to score double figures on any given night, knock down shots from behind the
arch, and guard 1-5 on the defensive end.
For Seton to continue their run the will need these 3 to play large roles
in 2021. Leaning on the 5 previous
players listed, Seton has a great chance for another title.
They do however lose one key cog from their 20 championship
team. LeeLee Willis transferred to Az Compass Prep
in June. She had an outstanding 2020 for
Seton averaging 10 points a game and 4 assists.
This was all coming off of a knee injury that had her sit out
significant time in the spring summer and fall.
Her bulldog mentality will be missed on the floor, but if anyone can
overcome the loss of a player its Seton.
Finally, players that will be asked to step in are sophomore
Amelie Cartagena, and senior Jamie Gillian.
Both will be asked to play key roles on defense and controlling the
boards. If they can grow as players
Seton has a great chance to add to their championship totals.
The biggest questions for Seton, are how will they deal with
the loss of summer competition? As well as, how will they stay focused in a watered-down
AIA competitive level due to the rise of the Prep Schools? If Seton can stay focused they have a great
Chance to win another State Title in 4A.
